This Dishwasher Will Save My Marriage! And Possibly Score You A $200 Best Buy Gift Card!

{ Wednesday, October 14, 2009 }
Be sure to visit my everyday blog: She Just Walks Around With It.
This whole "Part Two" thing will make more sense if you read Part One first.

This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Samsung Home Appliances.

Unlike my first attempt, where I veer off course.

I never even once talk about my boobs in this review, for example.

So let's see. Where were we? Well okay, first things first.
  1. If you want to get RIGHT to the part where you can enter the Samsung $200 Best Buy Gift Card contest, scroll down. But know that I think you're a party pooper.

  2. If you want to buy a cool looking, cool sounding dishwasher that will clean and sanitize your ever-growing baby bottle collection in under an hour, I recommend this dishwasher.

  3. If you don't really care about the bottle thing but just want a dishwasher that can FIT YOUR WINE GLASSES OMG, I also recommend this dishwasher.

  4. If you want to know why bad dishwasher status will ruin your marriage or make it snow in your livingroom, read Part One of this review here.

  5. If you just read Part One and are all, TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR DISHWASHER LIFE, let's continue.

...BUT!

Despite our house being newly built and having some rather nice amenities, the dishwasher did not bode well for our marriage and eternal happiness. The dishwasher sucked. Suck, suckity, suck-suck sucked.

Sucked because:

A: It was tiny.

Forget fitting plates, whatever. Wine glasses did not fit in the top rack. Yes, there was a stupid thingy made for where the wine stems go, but that only worked with our tiniest wine glasses, of which we have maybe three.

Also? Ha, ha. Apparently the part of our kitchen that was "custom built" to house a dishwasher was not made to any sort of "standard" specifications and therefore doesn't naturally conform to any sort of normal dishwasher removal or installation. So while this is a different issue entirely, it took the Best Buy installer dude 3 seconds to say, "Oh yeah, no, sorry. You can't fit a dishwasher there."

Note: He said this while pointing at the dishwasher that was already there. Awesome.

B: It didn't, you know, WASH THE DISHES.

I don't ask a lot of my appliances. I understand that most appliance failing is my fault. (See: kitchen moat. Or did I ever tell you about the time I made a microwave shoot flames? While at work? No? Hmm.) But after repeated use by me AND my husband, I can say with confidence that it's not my fault. Our dishwasher just didn't clean dishes.

So to set the stage for my doomed marriage, let me restate. Yes, I have a dishwasher, but that horrid, plain, white, cheapo appliance would more appropriately be called A Small White Box That Sprays Some Water On The Six Dishes That Fit In Here. And Leaves Them Spotty.

Meaning, obviously, that without a better dishwasher, our marriage would sputter and spot and we'd eventually outgrow it.

Thus, when presented with an opportunity to get a NEW dishwasher, I leapt at the chance. Please don't suck! Please don't be tiny! And, upon further reflection, Please save me from divorce!

And here are the results.

The dishwasher is the Samsung Built-In Dishwasher (it's this model):

This is like, an Official Product Photo.

Oooh, even the inside is sparkly metal!

The thing looks awesome. Once we got it in (which took some doing because our "custom" kitchen is not set up to accommodate any sort of normal appliance), it looked beautiful.

Our kitchen cabinetry is all white, and our appliances all "match." Except I'm not a huge fan of the coordinated white appliances because, like everyone else in the world, I think stainless steel appliances are so much more elegant-looking and modern.

Our kitchen. Note the white microwave and oven on the right,
the made-to-look-like-a-white-cabinet fridge (to the left of where the counter ends),
and the white island, which is where the dishwasher lives.

Plus everything goes with stainless steel.

So until we can afford to replace all of our appliances with stainless steel versions, starting with the dishwasher was an excellent first step. It doesn't stand out as mismatched at all.

Next -- and I know this is a really random thing to say -- the dishwasher sounds great. It is a pretty quiet machine when running, but that's not even what I mean. I mean that the buttons make little sounds when you touch them, and they sound really cool. Especially the power button.

I know. I know you're not going to buy a dishwasher because the buttons sound cool. Probably. But I wouldn't put it past me to make a decision that way, so I'm pointing it out.

Isn't this a happy sound?

Oh right. Probably the more important thing to point out is that there IS a power button. Meaning the the machine doesn't stay on 24/7, like older models do. Having a power button makes so much sense! I don't know how much of an impact this has on the environment, but hey -- if I can save some power here and there, I'm happy to. No need for the machine to always be on, right?

Ooh! Pretty, fancy buttonry!

But probably you're reading along here and just want to know if the machine works well. Yes, it does.

For one thing, it's totally easy to use. Naturally, I ran the first load as soon as the installer guy left without even looking at the manual. (Probably not the preferred method of operation, huh? Sorry, Samsung!) Basically I saw a button that said "Quick," looked at the mounting pile of baby bottles (uh, and maybe empty wine glasses, who's to say?) and was like, YES. I opened the machine, marveled at the amount of roominess and top-rack clearance (is it called "clearance"? I mean, when you think about it, a dishwasher IS kind of like a parking lot, except for dishes...) and jammed it full of bottles and glasses and whatever else I could find. I hit the "Quick" button.

And nothing happened.

So I hit the button about three million more times.

Still nothing happened.

Do you know why? Have you figured it out? Well, that's when I realized what the save-the-planet "Power" button is for. The machine isn't ON until you turn it on. So I turned it on, hit "Quick" and the machine told me it had 38 minutes to go.

Not bad for a full cycle!

At the end of the 38 minutes -- which count down very visibly, by the way --

17 minutes left to go!

I popped open the machine and was mostly delighted. The dishes, glasses, and bottles were SO CLEAN. I maybe did a happy dance.

I must point out that I was a little surprised at the amount of moisture still left in the dishwasher, though. It was still very wet. I just figured that the "dry" part part of the "Quick" cycle had maybe been somewhat compromised in order to get the dishes done in under 40 minutes(?). Despite the dishwasher and dishes being a little damp, however, THERE WERE NO SPOTS ON THE WINE GLASSES. So, I'll take damp over spotty any day.

The next time I ran the dishwasher, I used the "Normal" cycle with a very full load of dishes that were maybe not very well pre-cleaned. Because, yes, I wanted to challenge my new machine. Again, the dishes were spotless. Every plate and glass was clean and unspotted, and the stuff we didn't wash off the dishes was nowhere to be seen (I guess is due to the thing's "hard food disposer" thingy?). AND the machine was a little bit drier this time.

I also noticed that the moisture seemed to be worse on the plastic pieces in the dishwasher (tupperware, for example) than on the glass and ceramic. There is probably some physics law for this, but la la la, clean dishes.

Lastly, we tried the "Normal" cycle and added the "Extra Dry & Sanitize" option and that helped with the moisture situation a lot. It took longer to do the whole load, obviously, but that's not really a big deal if you leave the dishwasher to run while you go to bed (especially because when the dishwasher's done, it turns itself off).

To recap!

PROS:
  • Looks gorgeous (will make your stupid white appliances jealous)

  • Runs quietly

  • Makes cool sounds that will make you think you're living in the future

  • Incredibly spacious

  • Lots of "clearance" on the top rack, like a parking lot!

Here are two wineglasses (for scale). On the right, a very small, old-fashioned wine glass.
On the left, a gigantic red wine glass intended for reds like Bordeaux that
could not in a million years fit on the top rack of my old dishwasher.

Here is the dishwasher, open. Will Gigantaur The Wineglass fit?

It does! It's a dishwasher miracle!

  • Everything fits and the racks are even adjustable (though I haven't had to adjust them for anything yet)

  • Awesome "Quick" cycle (very helpful if you have company coming and you forgot to do the dishes!) (Not that this has ever happened to me!). Also awesome if you have a ton of bottles that could really use a power wash in a hurry.

  • Automatically shuts off, is not pulling energy 24/7, has a Power button (it's "Energy Star" compliant, but but that's not something I would notice by looking at it or using it, unlike the power button)

CONS:
  • Leaves dishes a little damp unless you run it with the "Extra Dry & Sanitize" option

And of course, considering all the empirical evidence, thanks to Samsung, our marriage has been saved. And I can go back to writing about my boobs. Phew.

A washer/dryer WOULD save my life, but unfortunately I can't have one in my condo. But a new stainless steel fridge would look totally awesome! Or a new microwave (mine is 10 years old!!).

Said that, I'm in love with your new dishwasher. Mine doesn't have clearance for wine glasses either... I have to put them sideways, which means it's never quite clean, and there's a little pool of water in them after it's done...

A new dishwasher would save my life because my (um, Maytag, and I could tweet it all day and no one would give a crap) dishwasher broke. I have four kids and a traveling (for work, not in search for new wife) husband.
I have been hand-washing dishes like an 1800s servant maid (not the hot-costume kind- the frumpy, 'dishwater hands' kind) for three weeks. I am ready to commit murder-suicide because a.) my husband should have to pay for not immediately replacing it and b.) the suicide part because hand washing the dishes of 6 people is killing me anyway- might as well speed up the process.
Thus, a new dishwasher would save two lives, plus four orphaned children- and ooh, the environment because I am killing many trees with all the paper plates.

Great post! I am in a similar situation as you - except it's with my oven. All of my appliances are black - except for our oven, which is white and small and the burners are pretty crappy. Which wouldn't be so bad..except I love to cook and use the stove top & oven 7 days a week. :) If I won the gift card - I'd put the money toward buying a new Samsung - 30" Self-Cleaning Freestanding Electric Convection Range in black. It would fit in our kitchen perfectly and make this chef a lot happier when cooking dinner for my family. Cheers! :)

Oh baby. A new fridge. My husband and I have actually had near-arguments over our crappy hateful fridge.

I would love a new oven. Mine is off by about 10 degrees and the self cleaning cycle doesn't work. What a treat a new oven would be.

We recently downsized our home and my refrigerator no longer fits my kitchen! This is so very frustrating each and every time I go into the kitchen to get anything out of said HUGE fridge.

I love to cook, many of the ingredients are in the cavernous fridge, so cooking has become a chore rather than the delightful hobby it used to be. Plus, my white wine gets pushed to the very back, darkest, coldest corner of the bottom shelf. HELP!

I would use the gift card towards the purchase of a new *stainless* refrigerator with french doors on top, and the freezer on the bottom. I have already shopped for it at Best Buy (I should get another entry for that!)

I don't ask for much out of life, a good man, healthy kids, and the ability to properly chill my white wine.

Give a girl a break, Kristy - pick me!

True story: EVERY SINGLE APPLIANCE IN MY HOUSE IS FROM 1982. I'm not even making that up. Clean dishes from the dishwasher? Surely you jest. Four working burners? HAHAHA. No. A Fridge that keeps food cold? ALL THE TIME? Seriously?

I might as well be living in a mud hut in the Andes mountains for all the effectiveness of my appliances.

This one time? I dreamed I could put potato peels down the garbage disposal without chunks spewing volcano style out the other side of the sink.

And then I realized Santa wasn't real either.

So, in short, please, I beg of you, PICK ME.

The end.

I would love to own a dishwasher that DOESN'T leave soap in it's dispenser (and sometimes in glasses) after it's "done". Talk about a nasty surprise when you pour yourself a glass of water. And stainless steel and sparkly and new?? Bonus!

catheroo said...

OH. MY. GOD. Do I need a new dishwasher. Mine came with the house, and it doesn't suck terribly, but it is so old that the pin things (or whatever they're called) that hold up the dishes? Well, they're rusted and the first one JUST broke off yesterday as I was loading plates. Also, it's really loud and I cannot hear Glee over the stupid thing.

I want the DMR78AHS to superclean my wine glasses, save on energy and not cause me to turn the TV volume up so loud the walls vibrate.

Also, I have that "We're Happy To Serve You" cup that you have in your dishwasher, so I think I should win the gift card to help me on my dishwasher quest. Mmmkay?

I'd take the electric range over just about anything. Even a pony or a puppy.

Why? Because my darling boyfriend almost burned his face off when a gas oven pretty much exploded while he was lighting the pilot light.

A sidenote: this was mostly his fault. But it was still scary as hell. My post about it is here:
http://rebekahj81.com/2009/03/almost-the-worst-thing-ever/

And to this day neither one of us can turn on the gas range without pausing to think of the best exit route and closest water source. There was a gas leak from the old oven the other day and we stayed outside on the sidewalk in the freezing cold for almost 2 hours because we were so sure the house would blow up before the repairman came.

An electric range will keep us from living in fear, spending money on house calls whenever we THINK we smell gas (the repair guy is on the Christmas card list this year), and will possibly prevent two heart attacks.

A dishwasher would save my marriage AND sanity. We have five children and I spend the better part of every day, standing at the sink, scrubbing dishes. One meal can dirty everything in the kitchen. Imagine all the time I would have for things like s-e-x if we had a dishwasher.

We're renting for a year. But it's a house, not an apartment, and the entire kitchen is seriously built by and sized for Smurfs. It makes me very sad to think about. However, it is a real house, not an apartment.

The appliance that would improve my life so hugely would have to be an icemaker. I realize this is weird, but I like my drinks very cold. I haven't had an icemaker where I lived for seven years.

My story relates more to alarm clocks (which I realize are not a part of the contest, but I live in Canada so I can't seem to participate anyway).
So, I feel about alarm clocks the way that you feel about dishwashers, mroe or less. All of my friends that have 2 alarm clocks (i.e. one for the girl, one for the boy) end up breaking up, divorcing etc. It just doesn't work out.
So my huzbo and I have only one. Which means I am in charge of it (since he is not to be trusted in general, and specifically in the mornings), it is set 30 minutes ahead so the time doesn't look so ug when you wake up and there will be no snoozing if he has to wake up super early for any reason.
And thus, our marriage will prosper.
Yes, I am totally bonkers, but that's really much more his problem than yours or mine.

OK, here is my HORRIBLE HORRIBLE crap hole of a dishwasher story. I moved into my house 1 year ago today and the dishwasher was already there. There isn't even a brand name on the front of it. I don't know where in the heck that it came from or how old it is. My cups and glasses never fit in the top so I had to put them on the bottom rack and waste plate space. Then, one night I saw a mouse and it ran under my dishwasher (the bottom part fell off of the POS). Being the very intelligent person that I am, I stuck a broom under there to try and chase the mouse out from under my dishwasher and out of my house. The dishwasher was running. Suddenly water came gushing out everywhere. When I cleaned up the mess I learned that there are hoses under there. I disconnected the drain hose. The dishwasher is also stuck under the counter, so we can't pull it out to fix it. We could rip it out and tear up the counter above, but we really don't want to have another project until we have a dishwasher to replace the old crapola one. It is now serving as a dish drainer. I LOVE stainless steel appliances. My fridge also needs replaced, but that's another long story that I would rather NOT get into. My husband refuses to wash dishes and I have two children. Having a new dishwasher would seriously keep me from hurdling plates at him when my two year old is tugging at my leg. Oh hey, and maybe he would do something about the DISCONNECTED drain hose that he has propped against the wall under my sink. It's connected to the sink drain and a death stench comes from it sometimes when I drain my sink. $200 bucks would really be nice to go towards a new dishwasher. I don't really even need a fancy-shmansy one. I just want one that is big enough and works correctly.

PICK ME PLEEEAAAASSSEEE!!!!!

In truth, it is hard to choose. But the appliance that would save my marriage would be a new refrigerator. My grandmother was nice enough to buy us one when we bought our first house over 10 years ago. BUT (and you knew there was a but) she bought one sized for a single person who doesn't eat a lot. Or drink much wine. :-(

When it arrived I was so, so sad. We can't fit anything in it. One set of shelves is ACTUALLY only 4 inches apart. Do you know how many scary things I find shoved to the back of that shelf when I make myself reach back there and clean?!

Please, please pick me. I want a beautiful, shiny, stainless steel fridge with LOTS of room and a water dispenser. Please.

Thanks Samsung for sponsoring the contest. And Kristy for the wonderful review and hosting the contest :-).

I would have to say that a new microwave would save our family. Since it's the only way I know how to cook and my cook (aka, husband) is usually traveling for work, we are having a hard time with food. With 2 kids and one on the way (next week) a microwave that didn't catch fire if you use it would be great!

I could so use your exact dishwasher AND a new oven/stove. We bought a 45-yr-old ranch house that had been "updated" on first look, but once we moved in, I realized ALL the appliances had been purchased from scratch-and-dent or "this is the last specimen of this model that they stopped making 12 years ago for obvious reasons" clearance centers. Totally have the "it just sprays water on my dishes" problem as you did with your previous dishwasher. Thanks, and love to Evie!

I recently relocated for work to Ohio from Indiana. To avoid breaking a lease I had to go with the same management company. It's important to note that old apartment = awesome, new apartment = disaster, and now I'm left with no washer and dryer. (Or dishwasher or even screen door- apparently those are luxury items) Anyway, I digress- I'm traveling a lot with fun new job and have zero time to do laundry. Therefore a new washer/dryer would save my life (and give my kitty more quality time since I'm gone all the time as it is.) :)

I can completely relate to your correlation between appliances and relationships, except substitute "washer/dryer" for "dishwasher".

Our washer has suddenly decided that it will not EMPTY once filled. Which, indicidentally, seemed like an awful lot of work for the dryer to do, considering I'd have to bob for my clothes in the mini-spa. Not to mention that even once extricated from the muck, the clothes don't seem to have gone through a 'rinse' cycle in general.

Soooo, long story longer, a functioning washer/dryer would change my life and marriage, I'm sure of it! ;)

I own a condo in SF with an old but (knock on wood) AWESOME dishwasher that is seriously probably from like 1983 when the building was brand spanking new, but that thing KICKS SOME ASS when it comes to dish washing.

BUT: I have recently swallowed my pride and am currently "staying with" my parents (versus "living with" them) and an adorable Google-employed chick is renting my awesome condo with my awesome dishwasher.

That is all fine and well except that the dishwasher at Casa de Mom & Dad suuuuuucks. I can't tell if it's because the dishwasher actually does suck or if it's because my dad is MORALLY OPPOSED to setting the water heater hot enough to really get things clean.

It's a battle I'm never going to win and instead, I've resorted to BOILING WATER LIKE I'M A PILGRIM OR SOMETHING if I want to get things REALLY clean.

We are new home owners who purchased our house from an estate -- that means we're new to owning a house, not that the house is new. Nope, the house belonged to someone who lived alone as a widow for years and then died. Her appliances aren't in great health, either, but we're stuck with them until we can scrape together the money to start replacing them. Until then, who knows if she'll try to come by via the appliances. It happened to Carol Anne.

Dishwasher would be a great place to start, but honestly? Dishwasher, washer or dryer (we have a baby), oven range -- any of which would greatly decrease our chances of being sucked into a netherworld vortex, leaving our child orphaned.

I LIVE for the day that I get to have my own washer/dryer set up. Oh pretty please! I have spent the last 18 years of my life dragging my laundry to invariably far off locations, come rain or come shine. I deserve this! I anticipate becoming the proud owner of a washer and dryer as much as i anticipate becoming the proud mother of two or three. I am not even exaggerating. Oh, please, glorious day, come soon!
I'll settle for a lesser brand, but I'll joyously welcome a Samsung. :)

No need to speak of our microwave that dims the lights in our mini Brooklyn apartment, but is better than it's predecessor which melted (!) ... or the dishwasher that I don't dare to criticize too much, because I'd be so screwed without it... but it DOES make so much noise that we have to turn up the volume on the TV all the way, or we can't hear a thing. These should be tales of college days, but I'm in my 30s... sad but true.... the price of living in the big apple.

Oh, pretty please, pick me!

p.s.: oh, yes, boobies.... i have lots...which totally qualifies me too. aside from their massive presence and personality, they're also catchers of anything that falls from above and makes me THAT MUCH MORE in need of a washer/dryer. Because, you know, OMG the extra laundry!

Anonymous said...

A dishwasher that actually washes dishes, does not sound like Niagra Falls in my kitchen, and only leaves dishes slightly damp rather than completely wet though usually melted (how can it be wet and melty?) would be ideal, also it would be ok if it made my other appliances jealous.

Dishwasher would SO change my life. I use it less as a dishwasher and more of a giant, energy inefficient sanitizer. my wine glasses don't just have spots, they have giant spots that take up half the glass. Why you ask? Because I have to lay them on their sides.

I am in culinary school and have to cook constantly. It would be so nice to not have to hand wash everything and then put it in the sanitizer. And for things to fit. Anything, really, other than a tiny rocks glass.

I am so jealous of your new dishwasher! However, your kitchen is beautiful.

Definitely the Washer/Dryer. It's so beautiful! and tall! (perfect for a few-weeks-away-mama-to-be with back problems) and shiny! and front loading! And it does way better tricks than my little top loader.

Anonymous said...

The washer/dryer would be magical. Do you think my parental units would let me store it in their basement until I actually...you know....owned a place and didn't do laundry like I still lived in a college dorm, with quarters and everything? Barring that, I say microwave, because mine is um, kind of gross, and I really don't feel like cleaning it.

I'M JUST BEING HONEST.

The Samsung Front Load 4.5 cubic ft washer and drier changed the way I live. No.. It's not an exaggeration. I literally hug them every time I use them. (This has been going on for about 7 months now.)

I've never been a "laundry snob". I threw in my colors and darks and whites all in the same load, because honestly my colors are dark and I don't own any whites - not even towels. In fact, I hated doing laundry. That is until I bought the washer and dryer.

You see, I have a california king size bed. Which means I have cali king size sheets, comforters, quilts, throws and about 12 pillow case covers. (I like pillows. Leave me alone.) Before buying the Samsung set (at Best Buy, even) I would have to run each load twice to get them clean - burning 2x as much water and electricity as a normal human being. Then came the day when they were delivered and I gleefully was able to put an entire comforter in the washer AND have extra room. Glory BE! And my god, they came out so clean...

Then my clothes. Out of respect for the machine (and how much I paid for the bastards) I actually separated all of my loads, was able to run them with little water and listen.. I don't care what the detergent ads tell you. They don't make the difference. My grey whites have never been so white. My blacks, never so dark and my colors never so true to when I bought them. It was like I cleaned off a year or more of grime left over from my previous washer/dryer set. I felt clean and dirty at the same time.. kind of like sitting in a hot tub.

But this is getting long.. To wrap up, I love doing laundry now. LOVE IT. It changed my housewifey life.

So, I need a microwave in a bad way and for many reasons. My last microwave came with our house which also came with all the last owners junk. We trashed almost all of the junk except the microwave. The microwave decided to repay us for not throwing it away by short circuting and catchig on fire (no damage to my house, luckily).
Now for the real reason I need to microwave. I don't cook with anything else. I have been going through left over pizza withdraws because I can not reheat it to the gooey delicious mess it's supposed to be. And I don't know who wouldn't be upset over that problem. aarepp@yahoo.com.

I bought the first appliance I ever owned with my male roommate. The guy at Best Buy assumed we were a couple the entire time, which kinda blew and made me sad. When my roommate moved out to buy a condo, I bought him out of his half of the fridge. It's a basic little white number.

So now it's MINE ALL MINE, but it's still tainted, right? Clearly, a shiny NEW fridge not born of poor assumptions and shopping with male roommates would be MUCH better mojo.

Oh lord. How to choose? I live in a shack with no appliance that cost me more than 25 bucks and that was the fridge. It works very well actually but is old and rusty and chippy. I have a hand me down range with NO HOOD so the fire alarm goes off everytime I cook. Which I have gotten used to. I caught the microwave on fire and am not interested in another one since I have microwave phobia these days. I have no washer/dryer and would love a stackable but will have to knock out a wall and do some plumbing I think to put one in. I'd love a dishwasher but again, I don't really have a place for one.

So um, I am gonna go with new fridge because this one is really, really small and the orangey yellow plastic insides break off a lot. (Not even kidding a little) even though it does the important job of keeping the beer cold very well.

So um yeah, new fridge.

I'm saving money for one of those fancy Samsung TVs too. My old tube kind doesn't have a functional on off switch.

Hey I think I'm poor! I didn't realize how bad I had it until I saw your glamorous kitchen and dishwasher. I'm gonna go have a drink now.

All of my appliances have been crapping out one by one, so far we have replaced the fridge, the washer/dryer, the dishwasher the microwave, next on the list...the ovens and the stove top. If any of these things goes out I think I will too.

Sam said...

We need a new refrigerator in the worst way. We still have the crappy, ugly one we inherited from the previous owners of our house and, while it worked OK for the first few years, this summer it started acting funny. And by "acting funny," I mean that the freezer side doesn't keep anything frozen and the fridge side doesn't keep anything cool, so we're kind of using the freezer side as a fridge and the fridge side as, well, a pantry. And since we don't have an appliance that can absorb the "freezer" function, we don't have ice cream so much as chocolate soup for dessert. Please pick us.

Esther said...

I rent an apartment so the only item of use would be the microwave. That being said, mine is *white* and at least 10 years old (I think closer to 15) and when you microwave anything frozen, only the outside warms up. If you want to have the middle warm, you need to eat the outside part that's warm and then re-nuke the middle. Because our lives are so boring that we enjoy not being able to actually eat the food we want to warm up.

Ok fine, I get that we can all live without microwaves, but why would you want to?

To make my life better, the one kitchen appliance I'd most like to replace is my washer and dryer. I always try to cram as much as I can into them, which makes them not wash/dry as well. A new set would be awesome!

A new double oven would absolutely save our lives, and our cooking. Our kitchen was remodeled in 1988 with clearance and discontinued items and hasn't been touched since. When our specially sized (ie: incompatible with anything made in the last two decades) double oven broke, we had to call countless repair shops before we got someone who recognized our model.

After having it repeatedly "fixed" by tiny little elderly men who look like they're going to have a stroke in our kitchen, we've been left with a top oven that runs only at +500 degrees and a lower over than runs about 200 degrees low. Suffice it to say, nothing comes out right. The bottom broiler also seems to either not work at all or burn everything to a crisp so our cooking options are pretty limited.

A new oven would totally save our lives.

A new refrigerator would be AMAZING!!

My ice dispenser has decided to stop dispensing, but thats the smallest issue.

Some thingamajig that controls the temperature keeps slacking on the job. I'll come home one day to the refrigerator being a balmy 55 degrees. Then before I go to bed it will dip back down to where its supposed to be, but then a couple weeks later work its way back up to 55 again. On top of that, everything I put on the left hand side of the fridge, essentially sharing the wall with the freezer, gets nearly frozen so I have to be sure to not put fresh veggies on the left hand side.
On top of that, its ugly white. I hate it.

Unknown said...

My dishwasher is somehow falling forward out of the wall. Not sure how this is even possible, but now it sort of tilts forward. I think this is probably a bad thing, but am too lazy to do anything about it. So, yeah, dishwasher.

But wait! My dryer is also annoying. It beeps at random. Phantom beeps! So, maybe dryer?

Sigh.

We just bought a new house, and after living with NO DISHWASHER FOR FOUR YEARS, we will finally have one. My life is about to change.
A really nice refrigerator and washer and dryer got thrown in along the way. The range and oven are built-in to the island, which I'm super excited about. Unfortunately, we're bringing our old, worn-out microwave along, and I'd have to say...a Samsung microwave might just make my appliance-life complete.

A dishwasher would change my life. I have NEVER had a dishwasher in my entire 31 years on the planet.

My husband, bless him, washes most of the dishes because he is the kind of person who washes as he's cooking and right after eating. Since I'm the sort who waits for a full sink I wash less, and it makes me feel guilty. And guilt is not good for a marriage, right? So, yes, a dishwasher could possibly save my marriage.

My dishwasher also doesn't get my dishes clean, unless you basically wash them before you put them in. And then really what is the point of the dishwasher if you have to do that? So, my husband washes dishes and we have a baby coming in a few months and will have lots of baby dishes to wash! A new stainless steel dishwasher would be great! We've replaced our stove & fridge already with stainless and if we got a new dishwasher we'd just have the microwave left.
Thanks for a chance to win!!

Having just moved into an apartment which contains my FIRST DISHWASHER OF MY VERY OWN, I have to say the last step in appliance nirvana would be a washer/dryer in my apartment. I've had washer/dryers in the building that I had to share with my neighbors, leading to "it's been two hours do I just take their wet laundry out and do mine?" dilemmas. Plus, I had to pay for it. I did the laundromat, which meant I could wash all my clothing at once but cost more and meant I had to sit there and watch it spin for an hour-and-a-half. When the laundromat near my apartment went out of business, the next closest was particularly ghetto-tastic that never fixed their machines when they broke, leading to a smaller and smaller supply the longer I went there. I would absolutely love to be able to do my apartment for free and at my leisure! One day, one day....

I'm with you on the dishwasher, sister. How's this for a crappy couple of years: I divorced my cheating, lying husband, and moved back to my teensy tiny condo (with a loud and somewhat-broken dishwasher). One month later, I was laid off from my job. And my disposal broke. Still unemployed = loud dishwasher, no disposal. So, to recap: I'd love a new dishwasher so that I wouldn't have to listen to the loud roar (and occasional tinkle of broken glass) of my current (crappy) dishwasher. If samsung makes a disposal, I'd be doubly-happy with that, too.

The fridge is horrible--the shelves are breaking and can't be cleaned very easily and the freezer door doesn't close well. The old electric stove is also in bad shape--the burners are uneven and the oven cooks unevenly, too. A new refrigerator or stove would make my life so much easier.

Man, oh man, would the fantastic Samsung washer & dryer be a welcome addition to my dinky townhouse apartment. My laundry "closet" sits in the hallway between my living room & kitchen. The doors are metal bi-fold, and seem to magnify the already-crazy-loud sounds emitted by my antiquated machines.

I always seem to be running a load during my prime time t.v. favorites. Such is the life of a busy single mom who works outside the home! I have turn the volume WAY UP just to hear Dr. House's witty comeback, or Mary Murphy's obnoxious Hot Tamale Train screech. Oh, also I'd like to mention that my washer likes to eat my delicates now. I really hate hand-washing because of my severely allergic skin!

For most of my life, I had a portable dishwasher: me. I never so much as touched an automated dishwasher until about twenty years ago when we built this house. I had to follow the step-by-step instructions to load it, and I stood beside it through the entire cycle because I was so excited, I couldn't bear to leave it. For the first time in my life, a robot was doing some of my housework! Twenty years of hard labor has left its mark on my cheapest-in-the-entire-store Sears dishwasher, and it's on its last legs now. I can no longer put the silverware in my dishwasher because the rack has too many broken slats and everything falls through the bottom. A new dishwasher would not only save my marriage, save desperately-needed time, and save my silverware; it would save my sanity, because this sink full of dirty dishes is driving me crazy. If I won a Samsung dishwasher, I'd frame the manual and put it on the wall.

We have a BARELY used dishwasher in our kitchen. Somehow, when dear husband installed it, something went terribly wrong. he is now the chief dishwasher at home, as he doesn't cook and I do. There is a small akin to "Something has gotten in there and died" eminiating from the unit itself, and we can't figure out where it is coming from! Plus, WINE GLASSES! I'm the wine-o in the house, and also, our extra large, man-sized Tervis Tumblers don't fit into the top rack, and take up a crazy amount of space in the bottom. Hubby does a great job, but throws water all over the entire kitchen when he does dishes, and takes forever to do them! What's a gal to do?

I have not observed that having a dishwasher (which I do, and which I love) has any effect on my love life. But it does make me less stressed generally, and that does, I believe, make me both more desirable and happier with my single-status life. Maybe your dishwasher-lovelife correlation only applies to straight people?

Anyway, a new refrigerator, on the other hand, would absolutely change my life. My old one is ugly. And also sometimes freezes lettuce in the fridge part. And also keeps the ice cream very soft in the freezer part. And also leaks in the summer, which leads me to fear that it will rot out the floor beneath it and drop into the basement. And you don't know me, so you don't know how awkward I am, but I would fully fall into that hole somehow, and that would be the kind of story I would think would be funny and cute and would awkwardly tell some cute woman, and then she would never ever go out with me, because who wants to date someone who is so awkward she would let her fridge fall into the basement and then herself fall into the hole?

I need, need, a new oven/cook top!!! Every singel meal that is cooked in our almost 31-year old oven is a gamble! How hot and for how long this time?!?!?! I hate it!!!

katrynka said...

I would love the new oven/cooktop. I have never tried electric, but I think this one would convert me! I hate cleaning my range, and so the glass top looks marvy!

A new larger washer will save my sanity. With 7 little kids 9 and under I have so much laundry, everyday. I could use a little relief.

I would love to have a new refrigerator. ours is on the fritz. and doesn't work properly most of the time. plus the fridge is white and the rest of our appliances are black. so it would be nice for them all to match.

Oh, yeah. I would much rather have this dishwasher than the one, albeit new, that I have. So pretty.

To make my life better, the one kitchen appliance I'd most like to replace is a toss up between a dishwasher and a microwave both of which are about twenty years old and need to be replaced.

A new Samsung oven would change my life forever, since all I do is burn food in my old oven!

Just got a new house and it has NO dishwasher! One thing I've always wanted was a dishwasher that actually worked!

That dishwasher looks divine. My hubby does the dishwasher loading and unloading so he'd love this new appliance. I on the other hand think my life would be saved by a new fridge. Stainless and Big with lots of room and a door that works without swinging all the way open!

Although the dishwasher is beautiful and I do need a new one, my dream appliances right now are the samsung washer and dryer set. I need to replace my old, tired set and I am in lust with the Samsung set.

Oh.. if you could only see my dishpan hands!!! A dishwasher would prevent the sink from being mistaken for a moutain of dishes.. I am willing to give up our limited cabinet space for that beautiful dishwasher... Oh... to be able to enjoy the sounds of that cute little beep!! Instead of my *sighs* as i scrub and scrub the dishes each night.... ! Nicole from... http://www.thedynamicduobrothers.blogspot.com/

A front load washer/dryer would be from heaven!

the computer chip in my dishwasher blew out, $350 for the part, so no way it is going to be repaired a new one would be cheaper, although a new one is not in the budget, I need one before Thanksgiving the thought of all those dishes and no dishwasher make me weak, your new dishwasher would be a dream come true

mrhmom said...

I would love a quieter dishwasher. The one we have now is so noisy, it is distracting.

Tina said...

Posted about it on my blog, too!

My dishwasher isn't very grand, it's old and I basically have to wash the dishes before I put them in there, so a Samsung Built-In Dishwasher would save me a bunch of time and keep me from yelling at my husband when he puts dirty dishes in the dishwasher and I end up having to take them all and clean them off by hand! Yep a new dishwasher would be grand!

Thanks for the chance!
I'd really love a new microwave! Our current cheap-ie is broken half the time. I'd love Samsung's new SMH9187ST.

That is beautiful. I didn't know a dishwasher could be :) I would love a new one, but I really need to replace a old oven first. It has three small burners and a broken large one. So annoying trying to cook a huge pot on a small burner.

The one that would change my life right now would be a Samsung Microwave, since my current microwave (different brand) died just after the one year warranty period.

Hands down it would be a new dishwasher. My current one is super loud and not large enough. I believe it's over 20 years old. Thanks.

We were dog-sitting my m-i-l's dog for 3 months while she recuperated from a broken hip. Every day, I had to heat the dogs food a bit in the microwave (spoiled dog). About two weeks ago, I put the dog's food in the microwave and when finished, I could NOT open the microwave door. I prodded, I poked, I whacked. Nothing. In the meantime, the dog is sitting there drooling and glaring at me. Poor dog had to eat a cold meal. So, I really could use a new microwave. AND a way to get my dish out of the old one LOL ceegeebeegee at yahoo dot com
