This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Aquaphor.

Yes, this is a compensated review from BlogHer and Aquaphor, BUT! I would have totally written it anyway because I am in love with this product. In fact, I owned so much of it already that when I received the free samples I'm supposed to be reviewing, I gave them to my pregnant friend so that she could learn the joys of a diaper cream that doesn't smell AND that doubles as a heal-all for baby's skin.

That should be my review right there, but I'll actually go ahead and say more.

Growing up, my mom used the same diaper cream that everyone used. (I can actually conjure up that smell in my mind if I think about it.) When I got pregnant, I just assumed everyone still used smelly creams, and I was resigned to using them myself.

Until!

The day after we returned from the hospital with our darling daughter, and my visiting mother-in-law asked if I'd heard of Aquaphor.

"NO! WHAT'S AN AQUA FOR?" I replied, thinking I was clever. Because I was covered in spit-up and boob juice and quite possibly my own drool. I don't think my MIL was half as amused as I.

She explained that Aquaphor is the only thing her daughter will use because it is awesome AND completely odorless. And then just in case I wanted to try it, she went out and got us some.

I do not know if I am capable of writing what it's like as a new mother, freshly back from the hospital in a shocked-and-awed stupor, to use a product that just works.

Personally, it's not like anything went wrong when I got home...I just couldn't tell if I was doing anything right, either:

Is she eating enough? Am I holding her okay? Is she sleeping too much? Do I need to wake her up to change her? Is she too hot? Too cold? Is it okay that she fell asleep here instead of there? Should she be wearing a hat?

So the first time I saw the faint red marks around Eve's thighs where her diaper gathers, I knew enough to say, "Okay, this is not good." But I didn't know if that's what I was supposed to use the Aqua-for. (HA! I crack me up!)

I opened the jar and was relieved that there was no scent at all. I dabbed my finger into it and was relieved that it wasn't gross or greasy. I put a little bit on Eve's red marks, and then just hoped for the best.

Not much later, when she needed to be changed again, I didn't know what to expect. But you can imagine my astonishment when her red marks were totally gone. The truth is, I felt like Florence Nightingale. I was a healer! Something was wrong with my baby and I used the right thing and then the thing that was wrong wasn't wrong anymore! I AM A GREAT MOTHER! TA-DA!!!

(Yes, it was really the magic of Aquaphor but I will totally take the credit.)

But then? IT GOT BETTER!

One day while breastfeeding, I was staring at Eve's face, wondering when the skin on her forehead would heal. (Newborns go from being in fluid to being on dry land, and their skin can get/stay very dry as it "sheds" its in-womb properties. Regular grown-up moisturizers are not good for baby skin, and even gentle lotions aren't so good for babies' faces.) I looked to my side table and noticed the tube of Aquaphor just sitting there. I wondered...

The label said it protects and relieves chapped skin, so I figured I'd give it a shot. LO AND BEHOLD. Obviously it didn't clear up her dry skin in one shot, but regular application seemed to make it better. (Of course, her skin was a little shiny for a while, what with the ointment glistening on her forehead, but whatever. I'll take "glisten" over "red and flaky" any day.)

But once I realized what a miracle salve Aquaphor was, I started using it for everything. Sometimes Eve will still get pink patches of dry skin on her face, and I'll dab some Aquaphor on them and they clear up right away. (Note: VERY helpful for photos!!!) I smear the Aquaphor all over her legs when they get really dry and baby moisturizer just won't cut it. I also use Aquaphor to protect her skin from further damage/inflammation when she scrapes herself with her fingernails (which happens because I am still not very good at clipping them, whatever). I even use it on my hands when they get chafed (from my obsessive hand washing and sanitizer using -- it is flu season after all!).

And again, for the record? ALL of this was true before they ever sent me a single sample. Lucky for you, because now it's your turn to benefit!

Love it, Aquaphor is Aqua for--I've used Eucerin forever and Aquaphor now and then. It is the BEST overnight pedicure-in-a-sock treatment ever. It's probably good in gloves, too, but I can't sleep with gloves on. I'd feel like Mickey Mouse. Or a mime. Who could sleep like that? Still, Aquaphor in cuticles, elbows, etc. is heaven.

Fortunately I don't have to use it often, but sometimes if my hands are really chapped (during the winter) I'll slather it on. Another good use is if the tip of my nose gets scratchy from blowing my nose, I'll dab a bit on!

I love all of Eucerin products from their suntan lotion to Aquaphor. Aquaphor is fabulous on cracked lips. It's a must buy! Aquaphor Shampoo is terrific too. I use it on both of my children ages 1 and 3 years old.

I would be selfish and use non-baby stuff for me and my skin that is cracking from the dry cold in Alaska. And be giving and wonderful with the baby stuff to my friend who is due Dec. 2. Oh, and the gift card is all mine - aka the house that is a money pit.

I absolutely LOVE Aquaphor products. In the winter months, I pretty much slather my entire body with it. If I had the means, I would fill a bathtub with it and dive right in.

Aquaphor and Eucerin really rock! I love how the Aquaphor keeps my elbows from getting too scratchy, especially in wintertime,

Well, I'm due with my first in April, so I'm ALL about learning and finding the products that are must haves. It would be awesome to have a kit like this at the ready when we come home from the hospital.

Great review. I'll buy it even if I don't win! :)

My mom recommended Aquaphor for my husband who has been dealing with extremely dry skin for the past two years. He was amazed at how quickly it worked for him (even better than the prescription he received from the dermatologist). And now that we're in the chillier time of the year I've swiped his bottle to use on my hands, feet and cuticles. Aquaphor is Aqua-for all your moisturizing needs!

I use it on my daughter. She seems to have inherited my hubby random skin conditions, so I use it to soothe her skin. She doesn't seem to mind it and it works so well! I've used dabs of it here and there myself for little spots of dry skin. This stuff is great!

Unknown said...

My kids have horrible winter skin and I've been using Aquaphor for years when things get really bad. I slather it on their hands at bed time and then put socks on over their hands and in the morning, they look significantly better. I swear by this stuff and buy it in bulk at Costco.

I use Aquaphor ALL the time...nothing leaves my skin feeling healthier. I take care of my niece and I always have it on hand for her. She has had dry skin since she was a baby, something I think she has inherited...poor thing! She is always asking for us to put some on her. She calls it "milk". We aren't sure where she got them from but she started calling it that and we kept trying to give her a cup of milk then finally she went and got it and said milk! I guess it looks like milk to her!

As I constantly get colds or have allergies, I use Aquaphor on my nose all the time. It totally gets rid of the flaky skin that you get from blowing your nose too much. It doesn't clog your pores either, which is a total bonus. Who wants to trade in non-chapped for clogged pores? Not me... this gives you non-chapped and no clogging. Yay Aquaphor.

Aquaphor is GREAT for your skin when you’ve gotten a bit too much sun in the summer! Rub it on lightly throughout the day to keep it moisterized and minimize peeling! It doesn’t have a lot of extra “stuff” in it to irritate your skin and it really works to seal in the moisture – especially just after you’ve washed your face! Just a dab will do ya! ;)

What a hilarious but true review! I too discovered the fleeting moment of competency that Aquaphor gave me as a new mom. My little one's diaper rashes would disappear in days if not hours of using this stuff.

In my business, we slather it on the faces we've done deep chemical or laser peels to aid in healing. Good on skin after a wax treatment too. For myself, my favorite thing is to dab it on my chapped lips.

I started using Aquaphor on my son's arms when he was little. He'd get these tiny white bumps and his arms would flake and itch so bad, especially after his bath. No matter what soap I used, he'd still be miserable. I'd layer on the Aquaphor after his bath and it worked fantastic. I even used it on my sandpaper elbows at night.

We used Aquaphor for diaper rash when the kids were little and still keep it stocked today. Great for the frozen cheek sydrome during the winter.

I use it for dry skin. After I moved from NY to CA, I developed really ashy dry skin so I would borrow my son's aquaphor. Works better than anything else!

My two favorite uses for Aquaphor:

** Massage into cuticles and nails to ease dryness and cracking

** Apply a thin layer at hairline when coloring hair to help avoid staining skin

We love this for the rough patches of dry skin/excema that our boy gets as well as the large areas of dry skin across his back and tummy. It's great stuff! Our problem is that we only just found out about it when our friends gave us a teeny-tiny little sample tube. We're almost out!

I have not had the chance to use Aquaphor, but would love to. I have a 23 month old with dry peeling cheeks, this winter has been harsh on her sweet face! I hope I win!!

we will devour that basket if we are the lucky ones! From a mom with dry lips and hands, to a teenage baskteball playing son with excema on his legs to my little ones. We are believers. And that, my dear, is what the Aqua(s) for!

Kelley and Gabriella said...

Oh man - do I need that this week!!!!!!!! My poor (almost) 2 year old has the driest, cracking hands for some reason. It just breaks my heart, but the samples from her peed are getting us by, but almost gone. My lips get super dried out (sometimes up to my nose - NOT cute!) just by turning on the heater in my car, and with a little one, it's unavoidable in this 6 degree weather! I have been putting Aquaphor all around my mouth and on my lips, on my daughters hands and all her dry spots as much as I can remember. I love that it soaks in quickly and that it is SAFE for my baby!! It has helped her so much and has stopped her hands from cracking and bleeding. :) I'm hoping I'll wake up w/ healed lips as well!!!

I love it. I use it for my chapped lips, severely chapped hands from all those diaper change washings, and on my daughters butt every time I change her. She never gets diaper rashes. It is a preventive as well as a healer.

I know I'm too late for the contest but dang I wish I had not missed this! You know how some people get tennis elbow? I have COMPUTER ELBOW from leaning my right elbow on the desk while I scroll through pages on the internet. It is so rough and chaffed right now that it hurts and snags on all of my clothing! Thankfully I just got paid so I am off to get me some of this miracle cream and hope for the best. Thanks for the informative review and I totally got the funny play on words hon LOL!!!

Mary said...

We totally already use Aquaphor (and Eucerin in general). Both our kids are extremely sensitive to dyes and perfumes - as are their parents. We pretty much use the Eucerin cream after baths, and the Aquaphor for chapped places, especially under/around little noses during cold season. Love it!

Mary said...

And yes, I know I was too late, but heck, I'll brag on Eucerin products any day.

Elizabeth said...

I would use it because my daughter has excema and has really dry skin!
